Arming The Aware
I went north and then south and it was a lot of fun. I saw friends from everywhere. There were boats that looked a lot like the one Girl Talk sported at Lollapalooza. I listened to some Girl Talk. What more can you ask of a holiday?
I read a book called Lord of The Barnyard, by Tristan Egolf. It’s about John Kaltenbrunner who, through a series of unfortunate events and the incompatibility of his personality with the world around him, brings destruction to his entire town. There’s no surprises in the book, the end is apparent from the start, but the account still unfolds at nerve-wracking pace, very effectively pushing the reader, along with the Baker Lay, into increasingly outrageous situations without batting an eyelid. The style of writing is a bit hard to follow (flowery language, no dialogue), and Kaltenbrunner’s character is lost a bit towards the end, but aside from that it’s a fairly good book.
It was good to read a fiction book for once. I’d like to read more, but I have no idea how to keep tabs on what’s good reading and what’s not in a world where people are reading Twilight like it’s the new Harry Potter.
