// 27th January

Holidays are great aye? Two months down, one to go.

I’ve been doing all sorts of things that don’t require sitting at a computer lately. And I’m enjoying it, I’m really not looking forward to first semester coming around and crashing my party.

  • In one week I learnt more than I learnt all last year at university.

  • I paid another visit to Sydney, where I played a heap of backyard cricket and soccer, was invited to an awesome birthday party, and picked up a few new CDs-
    The Postal Service’s Give Up. I wish I wrote this entire album, it’s so cool
    Paperadio’s Drown Out The Sound EP. STill the best band to have never released an album
    Steve Kopandy’s Scripted EP
    Big HEavy Stuff’s Dear Friends and Enemies, which is so good that even my mum likes it
    I Am Kloot’s self titled album. Benj unknowingly recommended this album to me, as he has one of those ‘currently listening to’ dooveys, and I Am Kloot seemed to feature there prominently. Benj has good taste, and he didn’t let me down with I Am Kloot
    The Thrills’ Let’s Bottle Bohemia. This CD is getting the most spins on my stereo at the moment, it’s awesome
    The Lemonheads’ Best Of, The Atlantic Years
    Triple J’s Home and Hosed compilation of new Australian music. Last year was great for Aussie music, so this edition of Home and Hosed is tops
    David McCormack and the Polaroids’ The Truth About Love. Dave McCormack is a great songwriter
    Spencer Tracey’s self titled album
    Idlewild’s Hope Is Important, 100 Broken Windows, and The Remote Part. Yes, funnily enough, I didn’t previously own those CDs
    Evermore’s Dreams
    The Verve’s This Is Music
    U2’s Under A Blood Red Sky
    Jeff Buckley’s Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk
    The Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, and Come On Pilgrim
    The Dandy Warhols’ Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia, and Welcome To The Monkey House
    On vynil, Monty Python’s Instant Record Collection, which also comes in a special edition for people who are allergic to round things with holes in them
    And Placebo’s Soulmates Never Die, Live in Paris 2003 DVD.

  • I got a TV jingle stuck in my head, just by hearing other people sing it, and I’m still singing it to myself, a month later.
    Banana boat.

  • I went camping, got sunburned, rained on, and cut to pieces.

  • I was promoted to A-grade for my cricket club, and then promoted to opening the batting one game later. Talent must be in short supply.

  • And I was sold a brand new PC with a faulty modem. I eventually got the modem exchanged, but not after a lot of argueing with the store, who claimed that because I installed my operating system and drivers myself, it must have been a problem with my configuration, not their modem.

Holidays are coming to an end (relatively speaking), and Tim has decided that he’s going to quit university and go to tafe, on the back of some poor results. Course, he gets bad results because he’s lazy, so he’ll get bad results at tafe as well. The real tradgedy in all this is that I’m going to be so bored in lectures now, that I’ll have to start taking notes or something, to keep myself occupied. No one to play noughts and crosses, or paddocks with anymore.

Banana boat.

Solid.

Hot Track

// 25th January

Tomorrow Triple J is counting down the hottest hundred songs of two thousand and four. So tune in / listen online from ten am (Australian time).

I predict that the number one song will probably begin with T and end in ake Me Out.

Tsumani

// 2nd January

Buddhist temples turned into morgues, Christian churches turned into hospitals.

I was just a boy when I sat down
To watch the news on TV
I saw some ordinary slaughter
I saw some routine atrocity
My father said, dont look away
You got to be strong, you got to be bold, now
He said, that in the end it is beauty
That is going to save the world

- Nick Cave
